Makati is best known as a city of progress, business, and generally more expensive things, but there’s more to this sprawling CBD than high-class malls. The city is also a great place to enjoy the underground music scene from live bands and local artists.

Many people will agree that nothing compares to the experience of listening to songs performed by a band or an artist live, if that weren’t the case, people wouldn’t bother going to concerts. Though Makati doesn’t have SM MOA or the Big Dome at its disposal, it doesn’t lag behind in the quality of its own contributions to the local music industry.

The city has a mixture of bars and clubs spread across its territory that caters to the wild variations in preferences and styles of music lovers. Whether its rock, indie, blues, or reggae –anything goes – just as long as you know where to find them. The music scene is another good reason to look for apartments for rent in Makati.

Commercial v. Indie

What makes these places different from other nightspots? Why can’t people just enjoy the same way in commercial bars? Other than the live acts, what else is there? It’s hard to explain why such places are so different from the widely recognized names, but it becomes blindingly obvious once you step foot in one of them.

The crowd is the first and most noticeable difference. When people go to a commercial bar, they go for the drinks and to have a good time, the music is a favorable consequence. On the other hand, when people go to a bar with a live act, the music is the only sole reason they go and stay; food and company are the favorable consequences.

Intimate Scenes

The second most pronounced difference between the two is the utilization of space; commercial bars have a goal of serving as many customers as possible. This means that the entire floor is dedicated to accommodate as many tables as possible.

Music spots vary in size from large commercial spaces to incredibly intimate settings, so intimate in fact, they’re no larger than an average Makati apartment. Regardless of their respective settings, considerable areas are cordoned off for the acts for the night.

Nothing compares to listening to live music; unfortunately, it’s not for everyone and is sometimes an acquired taste. If you have nothing better to do on a weekend, why not head out and try live music.
