Getting Rid of Pesky Weeds in Your Yard

Hand Touching the Grass

Every homeowner dreams of having a perfect-looking lawn. But, weeds can ruin the beauty of your yard. Thus, you need to get rid of them.

Here are some tips on proper yard weed control here in Salt Lake City that you need to know:

Know What You Are up Against

First, you must determine what types of weeds are infiltrating your yard. Just like your plants, weeds grow either perennially or annually. The latter typically appear during summer. They love the summer sun but driven away by the cold autumn conditions.

They follow a particular cycle each year: grow in summer and die in fall. On the other hand, perennial weeds keep coming back. You need to spend time killing them and making sure they do not return.

Properly Water Your Lawn

Every week, lawns need to get approximately an inch of water. They can wither and die if they get fewer amounts of water. Giving them more water, however, may attract weeds. To make sure that your lawn gets enough amount of water, make a rain gauge.

Place a small dish on the lawn, and check it each day. Once it is full with about an inch of water, it means your lawn has received enough water for the week. Make sure that the dish is away from the sun to avoid evaporation and ruining your results.

Get Rid of Weeds from the Ground Up

Do not pull or cut the weeds. If their roots stay on the ground, they will not go away from your lawn. Use a shovel or pointed spade to dig the roots out. Dig deep to loosen the roots’ hold on the soil. Carefully pull the weeds from the base, making sure not to break the stems.

By following these tips, you can manage your lawn and get rid of weeds. If the weeds prove to be too stubborn, consider working with weed control professionals.
