Land Subdivision in NZ Becomes Apparent with More Home Permits

Statistics New Zealand data showed that there were 32,850 new housing permits in the 12-month period. These included 3,902 apartments and 5,945 town houses, flats, and units.

In Auckland, Stats NZ said that the approvals covered almost 12,500 new homes in the 12-month period. This figure could increase once the local council breaks ground on an infrastructure plan before building 7,000 more homes.
In terms of value, housing permits amounted to $14.2 billion, including renovations and extensions. Commercial building permits reached $6.8 billion. The increase in housing and non-residential permits mainly happened because of strong demand population growth, particularly in Auckland.
The government’s $1 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund granted a $339 million loan to Auckland for new infrastructure, including new transportation and waste water systems. This only increases the need for property developers to procure civil engineering and planning consultancy services.
For home buyers, the creation of new infrastructure would be a boon for them. The addition of new properties in some parts of the city could mean a lower median price, which ranges between $650,000 and $890,000. It may still be expensive, but it is a better alternative than the current average price of more than $1 million.
